    Yoga and change

    Yoga and change

    Most of us find change difficult. But it is a persistent aspect of all of our lives. One of the most difficult aspects can be the resistance that we feel towards change. The resistance itself takes time, energy and effort that we could use elsewhere.

    A different perspective can be very helpful in dealing with the resistance to change. James Baldwin, the American novelist said:

    “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced”

    Happily we can also use our yoga skills to ease us through these times of change. Try following the advice of Krishnamurti:

    “Like watching the breath; if you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it then what you are undergoes transformation.”

    Next time you notice you are being challenged by change in your life pause to consider the above. Perhaps you will find that your change is a useful means to an end and/or by watching the change it will undergo transformation.
