About the Kuring-gai Yoga School, Sydney
Some three decades ago the personal benefits Margaret North was gaining from her weekly yoga class with the renowned Sally Janssen - freedom from 15 years of chronic back pain, noticeable, growing serenity to face the stresses of life events and the busy-ness of caring for three little ones - engendered such a passion for this ancient form of body movement, breathing and mind-stillness that Margaret felt she must share this amazing system with all.
After rigorous IYTA yoga teacher training, the St. Ives Yoga School opened in September 1978 as small groups in a St. Ives rumpus room. The classes were popular and soon outgrew home premises. To define its wider influence the School was renamed Kuring-gai Yoga School.
A lovely hall was found at the Uniting Church Pymble where we have been for over twenty years. Students are drawn from all parts of Sydney's North Shore, Northern Beaches and Eastwood-Ryde.

The demand for yoga classes required Margaret to seek assistance - always from teachers passionate about the benefits of yoga, highly trained and deeply committed to their own yoga and personal development.
Thus each of our dedicated teachers is a Full Teaching Member of the International Yoga Teachers' Association or other equally, highly respected teaching body. We have sat at the feet of many wise teachers including: Brahma Kumaris (Raj Yogis), Alexander Technique teachers, Dru Yoga teachers, B.K.S. Iyengar, T.K.V. Desikachar, Kausthaub Desikachar, Swami Satyananda, Acharya (Upendra Roy), Swami Satchidananda, Simon Borg-Olivier, Philip Jones (breathing), Sally Janssen, Michael Volin, Donna Farhi, and Andre von Lysebeth.
